Carolyn Christie began her study of Buddhist philosophy and yoga practices while serving in the Peace Corps in Thailand, 1987-89. After exploring various schools and methods, Carolyn chose to study with Tibetan Buddhist teachers, BKS Iyengar and Iyengar Yoga teachers in the west. Carolyn has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1995 at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York. She also teaches workshops and retreats outside NYC. Seeing the interdependence between teacher and student she considers her practice from both perspectives. Student and teacher cannot meet without presence and patience. Without presence and patience there is no learning, no teaching.
“What I learn from yoga practice is what I teach in yoga classes. Iyengar Yoga practice evolves from outer movement going into asanas to “inner action” within a particular asana. Inner action of body and mind leads to breath awareness. The union of body, breath and mind deepens and expands awareness”
